When is a model agency, not a model agency?

Yes, it is confusing. Why? Because the internet is largely unregulated. Any business can describe themselves as a ‘model agency’.

Search on ‘model agency’ and Google will show up:

• Apple Models
• Models.com
• Star Now
• The Model Factory
• UK Models
• Start Up Models
• Neon Models
• Luxe Models
• London School of Modelling
• Model Guides

None of these websites will, neither can they, find modelling work. Somewhere on their sites, there will be a statement, admitting... ‘We are not an agency’. It will not be immediately apparent, because, they want you to believe otherwise. Have a look at the links above and note the yellow highlights.

‘Misleading’ you may say and you’d be right. But this is the Internet and in this respect, it’s unregulated, anyone can call themselves whatever they like. In the case of these companies, the reality is they only either, take photographs, or give advice.
One thing’s for sure, they will not find you modelling work.

Why? Because to put models into work, makes them an Employment Agency and there’s the difference. Employment Agencies are Government regulated. The Business, Innovation and Skills Department inspects all Employment Agencies and there are strict rules that apply.
