Marie Helvin Becomes A 59-Year-Old Bikini Model
In a recent study, 70 percent of Brits questioned by online mature fashion company isme.com said that women over the age of 39 should give up their bikinis for good. But should there really be a cut off point for this daring fashion item?
Talent Management has just seen images of Marie Helvin, modelling in two-pieces, that she hopes will change the opinion of those who believe that there is.
The former-supermodel-turned-mature model was recently asked by isme.com to demonstrate how certain styles of bikini can continue to flatter, regardless of a woman’s age. To illustrate their point, the brand created a range of 50s inspired Shapewear items, designed with the more mature lady in mind, and asked Helvin to model the collection to help to encourage confidence in others.
Helvin may not be an ‘average-looking’ 59-year-old, but bloggers and models here agree that she looks great in the collection – not only due to her age-defying body, but also her clear confidence on the photo shoot. She modelled high-waisted retro designs that, apparently, include features such as ‘bottom lift technology, tummy support and under-wiring in the cups’.
In an article written by Deborah Arthurs of the Daily Mail, Marie Helvin is quoted as arguing: “Who says women should be denied the right to wear a bikini just because of their age? It’s not as though the only options out there are tiny string bikinis – there is so much choice now for women thanks to sites like isme.com, and they put so much technology into today’s designs.
“Like every woman I’ve gone through the experience of my body changing with time. As the years go by you get to know yourself better, and learn what works for you. It becomes even more important to find clothes that fit, flatter and help overcome the confidence issues that all women share.”
Readers agree. One commented: “My mum is 65 and still looks amazing in a bikini. Why are there ‘rules’ that say you have to dress a certain way at this age, etc. If someone looks good, let them wear what they like!”
A spokesperson for isme.com said the collection was created with, “a view to building confidence as well as every woman’s individual sense of glamour and comfort.”
We’re sure that 59-year-old Talent Management model Susie (pictured above) would look great in some of the isme.com swimwear designs!
