Make The Most Of Being Photographed
Talent Management knows that looking great in photographs doesn’t come naturally to most of us. Even full time models and celebrities have to work hard on their poses and photographic attitude. So, if you’ve always felt that you’re simply not photogenic, then we have good news – there are some basic tips that you can follow to get the most out of being photographed, whether on a shoot or in family snaps! Here’s our top three:
Practice makes perfect!
Nobody has to know that you practiced in a mirror prior to your moment in front of the camera, so why not prepare some poses that you think flatter you next time you’re alone. You can take this a step further by having a faux photo shoot. Give it a try alone with a camera that includes a timer function, or with a good friend who you feel comfortable with. Most cameras these days are digital so you can afford to take lots of photos and can immediately delete those that you feel don’t work. When you have taken some pics that you think work, consider how you can recreate the poses and angles that flatter you.
Personal style
When not on a professional shoot, try and wear something that you are completely comfortable in when having your picture taken. If you don’t work your own personal style, it may show, especially if you are unsure about your look. Also, avoid trying out any daring new colours or makeup ideas at the last minute. If you’d like to try something new, try it alone first!
Have fun!
Relaxing in front of the camera is so important if you want to achieve a great shot. False smiles and strained expressions will always look odd so it’s vital that you try to have fun. You may think that this is easier said than done but it doesn’t have to be. Approach being photographed as an experience that should be enjoyable. You are trying to capture a moment in time, for whatever reason, so lose yourself in that moment and shake off any rigidity. Physically shaking out your arms and legs can actually really help you to let go of tension. Give this a try between shots and be sure to change your expression or relax your face often – if you try to hold that smile for too long it will just look scary!
