The Victoria’s Secret Angels are known all over the world for their toned yet curvaceous physiques. While genetics certainly play a part in their stunning looks, maintaining catwalk-ready shape for leading modelling agencies, also requires hard work and dedication. Our team at Talent Management modelling agency has some modelling advice tips to help you train your way to a Victoria’s Secret body and possibly become a model:
1. Work out 3 – 5 times every week
It’s vital that you stick to a strict routine if you want to change your body for modelling, and studies have shown that exercising 3 to 5 times a week is a great way to keep yourself in shape. Aim to make each session 1 to 2 hours in length and ensure that you’re working hard throughout. Slacking off won’t get you the body you want!
2. Mix it up
It’s important to introduce variety into any exercise routine. This not only stops you becoming bored – and therefore running the risk of being tempted to skip sessions – but it also ensures that all parts of your body get a full work out. The Victoria’s Secret Angels use a combination of cardio, toning and strengthening exercises to ensure no part of their body is forgotten.
3. Ramp it up before a special occasion
The Angels exercise all year round, but in the run-up to a big show, they’ll up the ante and devote even more time to working out. It’s not unusual for models coming up to an important show to work out 6 times a week for up to 2 hours a day. The Angels have access to top personal trainers to make sure they don’t overdo it, but you can ask your gym instructor to tailor your existing routine towards seeing more dramatic results without pushing yourself too hard.
4. Pick a cardio activity you enjoy
Cardio is one of the most important elements of any exercise regime as it works the entire body. It’s vital you choose a cardio activity you enjoy as you’ll need to continually include it in your routine. Even better, pick a few different activities you enjoy – such as swimming, running and cycling – and mix them up so you don’t get bored. If you’re usually a gym bunny but you hate running on a treadmill, plot some routes around your neighbourhood and take to the outdoors instead. If you’re a keen swimmer, think about taking lessons to improve your stroke and increase your endurance in the pool. If you’re easily bored, you might find classes such as spinning more to your taste.
5. Sculpt your body
The Angels famously love the Ballet Beautiful fitness class which uses classic ballet moves to improve flexibility and strengthen muscles. This is a great way of sculpting the body and making it look toned, firm and lean. Kick boxing is another excellent way of sculpting the muscles in your legs, and you’ll get a good cardio workout at the same time if you put the effort in! Pilates and yoga are a more readily available option, with classes in each taking place all over the country at gyms, leisure centres, schools and yoga centres. Yoga and Pilates can help lengthen the muscles, giving you that long limbed, toned look the Angels all possess.
6. Get used to lunges…
Although following a regular work out plan will result in changes to your whole body, if you really want to look like a Victoria’s Secret Angel, you’ll need to focus extra attention on your stomach, legs and bottom. Lunges are particularly good for shaping up your thighs, and doing them while holding weights will increase the intensity of the exercise.
7. …and crunches…
These are a sure-fire way of tightening up your stomach muscles and working towards the washboard abs you’ve always wanted.
8….and squats
Great for toning the bottom, and easy to do even at home, squats are hated by many yet proven to get results.
9. Check your measurements
While the Victoria’s Secret Angels might have perfect hourglass figures, this simply won’t be achievable for everyone — and that’s okay. Keeping track of your measurements, however, will reveal changes you’ve made to your body through all your hard work and will keep you motivated when you feel like slacking.
10. Finally, be realistic
The Angels have all been chosen because of their seemingly perfect bodies. While we can all benefit hugely from getting fit and staying in shape, plenty of us could train every day for our entire lives and still not get the Victoria’s Secret body. The important thing is to increase your fitness, look and feel healthier and stronger, and be content in your own skin.
