Models Direct reviews products, models and events, and today – in the run up to Fashion Week – we’ve decided to take a closer look at flamboyant designer Betsey Johnson’s recent catwalk show to tell you what we thought of it.

This 70-year-old eccentric’s latest collection, named ‘BJ Kicks A’, is an active-wear range, inspired by 80s fashions. She decided that the best way to promote the lively designs was with a high impact catwalk workout – but Johnson didn’t make her models go aerobic alone. Super-trim and admirably energetic, she joined them for part of the routine, before ending the show with a high-kick and cartwheel, straight into the splits!

Johnson modelled a pair of black leggings, white hot pants and bright yellow hi-top trainers for her appearance in the show, topped off with a long-sleeved tee featuring the name of the collection. The range is full of brights, pastels and floral prints, and her model’s equally ‘funtastic’ ensembles were topped off with short bob-style wigs in a variety of colours.

Fashion writers at Models Direct aren’t sure that we’d be prepared to don one of the wigs any time soon but we would love to work-out in some of those cheerful brights – a big fashion must-have this season. Also present were bomber jackets in various styles – an item that will replace the biker jacket in 2013 as the coolest way to cover-up.

The work-out themed show is a precursor to upcoming reality series, ‘The Betsey and Lulu show’ and Johnson’s workout video, so look out for those.
