Leah Weller Models HEMYCA’s Bespoke Pink Dress To Raise Breast Cancer Awareness At LFW
Talent Management was excited when we heard that luxury womenswear label HEMYCA were creating a bespoke dress to raise awareness of the UK’s leading breast cancer research charity, Breast Cancer Campaign.
But when we found out that Leah Weller – model, DJ and spawn of rock royalty Paul Weller and Dee C Lee – was chosen to showcase the dress on the catwalk at at London Fashion Week, our excitement was doubled!
Having started her modelling career when she was five, Weller has recently been featured in lead fashion shoots and is the current international face and British ambassador for UNIQLO, alongside Jamie Campbell Bower.
But that’s not only why we love her. As always, we’re big fans of models with talent and this lady’s talents certainly extend outside of the realms of modelling; Weller has become a massive hit on the DJ scene and following in her father’s footsteps she is currently writing and recording an album to be released later this year with Universal Music.
And yesterday, at HEMYCA’s ‘Pure Spirit’ SS13 show, we weren’t disappointed as Weller effortlessly modelled the one-off silk georgette gown that was inspired by the iconic pink ribbon.
The young model Tweeted on the day: “Walking for @HEMYCA today excited! #LFW” and later posted the above picture, showing her in the pink creation.
In a press release, Weller also said: “I am really excited to be working with HEMYCA and Breast Cancer Campaign for a cause which is close to my heart. Through wearing it pink at London Fashion Week I hope to raise awareness of breast cancer and encourage people to take part in wear it pink – the charity’s key fundraising event on Friday 26 October.”
HEMYCA founders Helen Clinch & Myra Nigris added: “We are honoured to be this year’s chosen designer for Breast Cancer Campaign. It’s fantastic that Leah Weller is the face of the HEMYCA and Breast Cancer Campaign collaboration. She is such a great role model for young women with her successful career in modelling and now her music taking off. We look forward to seeing her modelling at our LFW show in our exclusively made dress for the campaign.”
HEMYCA will now auction the piece, which is in-line with the fashion house’s vision of timeless, elegant and modern luxury, to raise money for the charity at The Pink Ribbon Ball on Saturday 13 October.
The dress will be named ‘Emma’ after inspirational Breast Cancer Campaign supporter Emma Freeborn who at 33 lost her battle with the disease seven years after her original diagnosis. She was awarded a Cosmopolitan Woman of the Year award, walked the Great Wall of China and held a ball raising thousands of pounds for the charity.
Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK and accounts for nearly one in three of all cancers in women. Around 48,000 new cases of breast cancer are diagnosed each year and 1000 women a month still die from the disease. Breast Cancer Campaign aims to find a cure by funding innovative world-class research to understand how breast cancer develops, leading to improved diagnosis, treatment, prevention and cure.
Chief Executive at Breast Cancer Campaign, Baroness Delyth Morgan, also said: “We are delighted that HEMYCA has agreed to create a bespoke gown for Breast Cancer Campaign. Their feminine yet powerful designs represent real women and have set the fashion world alight. By raising awareness of who we are and what we do, they will take us another step closer to finding a cure for breast cancer.”
