Brazilian Girl Auctions Off Her Virginity For $780,000
While catching up on the news this morning, one headline in particular caught our attention here at Talent Management.
In a story that’s now gone global, we found out that a young Brazilian girl named Catarina Migliorini has just sold her virginity for an astounding $780,000, having put herself up for an online auction.
With 15 bids, the controversial sale closed this morning and Natsu, a man from Japan – who, other than his name and origin, has been allowed to stay anonymous – secured a forth base date with the 20-year-old PE student.
Beating off competing bids from men in American and India, Natsu’s winning sum will see Catarina ‘delivered’ on board a plane between Australia and America.
Working in the modelling and entertainment industry, we’ve heard of people doing crazy things for money, but nothing like this. And perhaps even stranger is the fact that Catarina intends to use the money for charity.
Ploughing the majority of the huge sum into a non-governmental organisation, her much needed money will be used to construct houses for poverty-stricken families in Santa Catarina, her home state in Southern Brazil.
While we applaud anyone raising funds for charity, this has to be the most shocking method we’ve ever heard of, and unsurprisingly we’re not the only ones taken a back. Catarina’s controversial decision has led to outrage world-wide, with many quick to dub her nothing more than an attention seeking prostitute.
To be fair though, the pretty brunette may not have helped matters when she revealed that her endeavours would be documented by an Australian crew for a film called Virgins Wanted.
According to papers, she signed up to the project two years ago when she saw an advert by Thomas Williams Productions on the hunt for a virgin to document.
She told Folha newpaper: “I saw this as a business. I have the opportunity to travel, to be part of a movie and get a bonus with it. If you only do it once in your life then you are not a prostitute, just like if you take one amazing photograph it does not automatically make you a photographer.
“The auction is just business, I’m a romantic girl at heart and believe in love. But this will make a big difference to my area.”
Whether she embarked on the project to promote herself and profit off of her virginity or indeed help out her community, we’re not sure – but this has to be one of the strangest stories we’ve read all year!
Check out the short film above, which shows Catarina in something that we can only describe as a casting video, ending with snippets of a male virgin named Alexander, who is also being followed as part of the documentary having auctioned off his virginity to a Brazilian woman for a less impressive $3,000.
