Ancient Greek Sandals & Marios Schwab S/S13 Collaboration Unveiled at LFW
The shoe-lovers here at the model agency were intrigued to see the Ancient Greek Sandals and Marios Schwab collaboration unveiled at London Fashion Week.
Christina Martini, the creator of Ancient Greek Sandals, worked with fellow Greek designer Marios Schwab to create two exclusive sandals for his highly anticipated spring/summer 2013 ready-to-wear show, and the team at Talent Management weren’t disappointed with the outcome.
Inspired by ancient heritage, as well as taking influence from Native American Indians, both sandals were shown in black unlined vacchetta leather and featured painted raffia fringe, lacing and tinted raw edging.
Our favourite of the pair was the gladiator sandal with intricate leather lacing and buckles, but we also loved the lower ankle silhouette.
Martini said of the collaboration: “I always admired Marios as a designer and I am a true follower of his work, especially as we both are from Greece. Besides his beautiful clothes he always designs very unique shoes, so for me as a shoe designer I was very interested and excited Marios wanted to work with me.”
Schwab added: “When I began working on spring/summer 13 I knew I wanted to incorporate sandals based on traditional silhouette but much more exaggerated in detail into the show as the feel was an element of rawness combined with a high level of craftsmanship. I really like Christina’s philosophy behind the Ancient Greek Sandals. We are both from Greece so the fact that they are all handmade by local craftsman was very special to me. I love mixing fabrics and textures and wanted to create something quite bold but still traditional.”
The sandals will be available in key stores worldwide for spring/summer 2013 and will be available in tan with a natural fringe as well as the black, which was worn by the models on the Schwab catwalk.
