Jesse Eisenberg & Mia Wasikowska Cast In Richard Ayoade’s New Film ‘The Double’
Avid cinema-goers at Talent Management have just heard about a new somewhat black-sounding film by comedy legend Richard Ayoade, ‘The Double’. And, judging by the cast and director, we can’t wait for its release!
Quite possibly our favourite young actor, Jesse Eisenberg – the man who impressed us all playing the role of Mark Zuckerberg in ‘The Social Network’ – has been cast alongside Mia Wasikowska, know for her roles in ‘Jane Eyre’ and ‘The Kids Are All Right’.
The Double, inspired by Fyodor Dostoyevsky’s novella of the same name, follows the story of an insignificant man driven to near breakdown by the appearance of his doppelganger. Although the tale promises to be funny – it’s technically a comedy – it also sounds frightening and dream-like, as it delves into loneliness and our need to love and be loved.
The film’s director Ayoade, who you may recognise from roles including nasally Maurice Moss in The IT Crowd and the belligerent shaman Saboo in The Mighty Boosh, made his directing debut with Submarine, an adaptation of Joe Dunthorne’s Welsh coming-of-age tale, which was a huge critical success.
Tessa Ross, Head of Film & Drama at Channel 4, says: “Richard’s joyous debut film, Submarine, established him as a unique voice and so we are really delighted to be supporting his next project, The Double. With Jesse and Mia now on board, it promises to be a wonderful journey.”
The Double is set to shoot right here in the UK this spring/summer, so keep your eyes out for a release date.
