Council Estate Supermodels To Feature On E4’s ‘Skins’!
Modelling agency Models Direct’s favourite Supermodels – ‘Council Estate Supermodels’ have done it again in superior style, and we could not be more excited for them! This time the uber-talented indie/electro band have managed to impress music supervisors of the massive UK hit show Skins, which recently returned to E4 for a sixth series. They’ve snapped up CESM’s ‘Keep Smiling‘ and the track will now feature on episode 3 of series 6 – due to air on E4 at 10pm this coming Monday, 6th February (hit the link to hear ‘Keep Smiling’ ahead of the show).
‘Keep Smiling’ was released by ‘The Electrik Playground’ back in 2010 after Jules Dent and Sam Woodford co-wrote the moving piece as a tribute to Jules’ (and CESM rhythm guitarist Jamie’s) grandmother – Angelina Vanzati. Jules told us that she was a lady whose “wisdom, warmth and positive attitude” has been an important influence on his family over the years.
The beautiful words in ‘Keep Smiling’ reflect one of her most memorable expressions, as relayed to him by his father Giulio. “The lyrics were taken from a conversation I had with my dad and were actually his words,” said Jules, recalling how ‘Keep Smiling’ came into being. “So it really means a lot to the family and the band to have it recognised in this way. We’re pretty bowled over by the whole thing as you can imagine!”
We have to admit that ‘Keep Smiling’ provoked an emotional reaction from many of us here in the Models Direct offices when we first heard the track almost two years ago and it’s no surprise to us just how well the Council Estate Supermodels have been doing since then. Having spent years around talented people, it was easy for Models Direct to spot these stars in the making early and we’ve brought you updates on their progress several times since the quirky name and unique sounds of the – then relatively unknown – band first captured our attention in 2009. During this time we have been particularly endeared to CESM by the down to earth attitude and infectious humour of its band members – Jules Dent (co-writer & backing vocals), Sam Woodford (co-writer & lead vocals), Jamie Dent (rhythm guitar), Danny Knox (drums) and Danny Colson (lead guitar) – all of whom we’ve found to be approachable and modest despite their hectic schedules and obvious talents.
As we expected the ‘Council Estate Supermodels’ look all set to take the UK by storm in 2012. Last year they were approached by Dave Spoon, with whom they are currently co-producing an EP, and they demonstrated impressive popularity at Bestival back in September when fans stormed the stage during their explosive performance of ‘She’s Oh So Yeah’. The show was almost stopped due to safety concerns but the band – unfazed – continued to perform, united alongside their fans, sharing microphones and wide grins with them until stage management stepped in.
Yes, you can’t help but love these guys. Now it seems that some ideal additional promotion for their upcoming EP will come in the form of a predicted peak in popularity following the Skins feature next week – we have had a sneak preview of the EP and strongly recommend that you look out for it!
