Talent Management knows it’s all too easy to let that fitness regime disappear into oblivion during the colder months. While a little winter insulation is harmless, keeping physical throughout the year can help you to avoid that post-Christmas uphill struggle to regain lost fitness levels.
Basics. A regular work out shouldn’t just be about losing pounds, taking exercise will help to improve general well being in lots of ways. It can improve heart and lung health, increase energy levels, boost immunity, control depression and inspire self confidence. Before starting any new exercise regime be sure to take advice from a health professional and once you have the all clear aim for three half hour work outs a week.
Outdoor activities. Some outdoor activities will be impractical during the colder months, particularly when there is snow or ice on the ground, but it is generally possible to enjoy the outdoors and keep fit outside right through the year in most parts of the world. A brisk walk is probably the easiest and least expensive way to exercise outside in most kinds of weather. Wear a hat and gloves in colder weather and include several layers of clothing. This is a wonderful exercise to share with a friend. Always be safe, stick to lit areas that you know if you decide to walk at night, and don’t go too far from home in particularly cold weather. If it’s really snowy outside why not grab a sledge and have fun with friends and family?
Indoor activities. Don’t forget all about swimming just because it’s cold outside! Swimming is great for all ages and abilities and don’t worry, it will not be cold at your local pool! Rediscover this enjoyable activity, but be sure to dry hair thoroughly before leaving the premises. Other options include the gym or a huge variety of dance, martial arts or general aerobic based classes. If you would like to save money and find it tricky to get out and about there are lots of fitness dvds to choose from.
