Last Wednesday night in Paris, singer, songwriter, and former model Carla Bruni gave birth to a three-week late baby girl.

And now we’ve just found out on Bruni’s website that she and her husband, President of France Nicholas Sarkozy, have named their newborn daughter Giulia – Italian for Julia.

The First Lady wrote: “I am deeply touched by the many messages of congratulations that I have received since the birth of our daughter Giulia.

“On this happy occasion, my husband joins me in expressing our warmest thanks to all those of you who sent us these tokens of your kindness.”

Bruni, who was among the world’s highest-paid fashion models in the 90s, is said to be doing well according to French reports, as is baby Giulia, who is the first ever baby  born to a French presidential couple in office.

While baby Giulia, who has already been nicknamed the ‘First Baby of France’, is the first girl for both parents, she is joining a big family; Bruni has one son from an earlier relationship and Sarkozy has three boys from two past marriages.
