We Love Lauren Hutton’s Gap-Toothed Grin & So Do Construction Workers!
Lauren Hutton, now an incredible 67 – not that we’d know – has recently revealed the dilemma her gapped front teeth posed in her early modelling career.
The American model spoke to Harpers Bazaar, revealing some encouraging words for all of us out there who have something a little different about us, whether it’s a bump in our nose, a dimple in our chin, or in Hutton’s case, a gap in our teeth.
Although we all know and love Hutton for her signature gapped front teeth, she told the magazine that in the beginning of her modelling career she juggling with the dilemma of whether to disguise the gap or not.
Initially she attempted to cover it up using morticians’ wax with a line cut in the middle, or a cap, which she would frequently swallow or lose.
“Revlon wanted me to use it all the time, and then the construction workers would yell at me in the street, ‘Hey, Lauren, why did you fill in your space? We don’t like you anymore! So I would turn and give them a great big grin and they would cheer,” she said.
But, a few decades later, and as Hutton attests, a gap toothed grin is “becoming quite fashionable now”. And indeed it is; Hutton has paved the way for models such as Lara Stone, Georgia Jagger and Vanessa Paradis, who all work this so called flight from perfection beautifully.
Talent Management’s moral of the story – don’t change who you are to fit into an ideal. You never know, you could be making a huge mistake throwing away your signature look.
Thankfully, Hutton, who “became a model to see the world, to make enough money to travel and experience other cultures”, kept her gap and never looked back, which is something the models at Talent Management applaud her for!
