Talent Management Model Gets a Gok Wan Makeover!
When part-time Nursery Assistant and mother of three Amy Barnard saw an article in Reveal magazine looking for someone who didn’t have a typical model’s figure and height, but was photogenic, she went for it.
Amy, 30, told us: “My mum was always saying I take a lovely photo so I thought I had nothing to lose.”
Indeed, Amy – who is 5’6”, a size 14, and has no previous modelling experience, with her children having been her main focus – doesn’t have the ‘typical model look’. But as she soon discovered, curves look fabulous behind the camera and Amy’s stunning plus-sized figure is becoming more in demand each day.
“There are so many pretty girls out there that modelling never really came in my head. Also I am a bigger girl at a size 14, that I wasn’t sure how I would photograph in clothes. But I must say now I have seen my pictures in the magazine I am pleasantly pleased with the results. I feel like they could be in a plus size catalogue,” she said.
Continuing, Amy told us more about her first taste of modelling. “When I arrived at the London studios after introductions and finding my bearings, I was straight in to hair and makeup. After a brief look at my outfits I met the photographers, who then got me posing and smiling.
“I had 5 outfit changes and through the 4th outfit Gok Wan walked in. I tried not to seem starstruck,” Amy laughed, “he was so lovely though, just as he comes across on TV. We had a brief chat, and he told me I looked gorgeous and had fabulous curves. We then had a photo together.
“I loved getting the makeover, I felt really special and was well looked after. I felt like a princess for the day, and would love for it to happen again,” she added.
After the shoot, Amy told us that the photographer and head of fashion features at Reveal said she “seemed a natural and very comfortable in front of the camera” and encouraged her to peruse a modelling career.
And that’s exactly what she did – shortly after her encounter with celebrity fashion guru Gok Wan, Amy got in touch with Talent Management, one of Europe’s leading modelling and talent agencies.
With such a great look and ability to represent real women worldwide, Talent Management quickly put Amy on their books.
So which direction does Amy now see her modelling career taking with Talent Management? “Anything to come out of this would be a bonus; I didn’t think two months ago I would have been modelling in a magazine with Gok Wan. But if I had to choose a preference to where my career may go, I would say catalogue modelling would be fab; to represent the average sized women.”
With gorgeous curves, a natural ability in front of the camera, and a Gok Wan photoshoot already under her belt, the modelling assignments team at Talent Management think they’ll be seeing a lot more of Amy in the future, so watch this space!
