Mixed Race Modelling Competition Holds Final Scouting Day
The Mix-d:Face modelling competition is back again this year and is holding its very last day of scouting before the best models are picked to go forwards.
The modelling competition is set up by ‘Mix-d:’, a social organisation that explores mixed race identity in Britain. Its aims include encouraging young people to engage constructively with their identities and removing the awkward silence surrounding the subject.
Despite that fact that 50 percent of mixed-race people are under 16 and are fast becoming Britain’s largest ethnic group, many mixed race youths grow up struggling with their identity – an issue that Britain & Ireland’s Next Top Model Jade Thompson encountered growing up. That’s why we at Models Direct think this modelling competition is a great idea to not only to boost the confidence of young mixed race aspiring models, but to also diversity the modelling industry even further.
Bradley Lincoln, founder of Mix-d:, told The Manchester Evening News that the modelling competition is “about challenging the perception on the catwalk that models should be mono heritage – either two black parents or two white parents”.
In fact, last year’s competition winner, stunning male model Graham Scaife, has already made a great impression in the modelling industry having just modelled at London Fashion Week.
Aside from signing up with a modelling agency, one of the best ways of getting noticed in the modelling scene has to be entering competitions like this one. So, if you’d like the chance to become a successful model, as Graham has, then we recommend heading down to the ground floor of Harvey Nichols in Manchester on Saturday 1st October, where Mix-d: is holding its last scouting day between 11 – 5pm. To enter, you must be aged between 16 -24 and have the confidence and self-belief that you have what it takes to become the Mix-d: Face of 2011. Check out the Mix-d:Face Facebook page for more info.
Good luck from the Models Direct team!
